Last night I had a dream
That was very real to me
The message held within it
I could not help but see
You see there was a party
A party just for me
Full of fun and getting high
You know artificial glee
When party time was over
And it was time to move along
I went into another place
Where I've not been for so long
I looked about and found myself
With a stranger all alone
And I couldn't help but think
That this stranger I'd once known
Well I was feeling pretty high
And when the stranger said to me:
"You seem to be so happy"
I said: "I deserve it don't you see?"
The stranger said: "I'm sure you do"
And when those words were said
My high it was just gone away
And my pain returned instead
I wasn't sure just why
But I just began to share
And as my tears came pouring
I found I did not care
When I was done I stood alone
Just crying silently
Feeling naked and ashamed
When the stranger came to me
The stranger's arms around me
So powerful and strong
As they held me close I heard:
"Why did you wait so long?"
Again I heard it gently:
"Why did you wait so long?"
Then one more time so lovingly:
"Why did you wait so long?"
